The anatomically shaped Sweet Iron bits from Waldhausen feature a mouthpiece that is adapted to the horse's mouth. Sweet Iron is made of blue steel. When it comes into contact with (air) moisture, it begins to oxidize and a sweet, brownish-grey surface rust forms. This stimulates saliva production in horses. They begin to foam better, which increases bit acceptance.
