The Baby Weymouth, also known as a "Baby-Pelham," is used in conjunction with a bradoon, known as the Weymouth bridle. This combination is primarily used in higher dressage classes. The Weymouth bit works with leverage on the bars of the horse's mouth. The length of the shanks determines the severity of the action. The Baby Weymouth has shorter shanks and is therefore somewhat milder than a standard Weymouth. A special bridle or an additional cheekpiece is required for using a Weymouth bridle. In addition, the Weymouth should always be combined with a curb chain to prevent excessive rotation in the horse's mouth. Due to its action, this bit is more suitable for experienced riders.
