Myler mouthpieces correspond in their construction and design to the Myler level, which in turn reflects the horse's behavior and experience. The various mouthpieces are available from level 1. These have the strongest effect on the tongue. Level 3 mouthpieces have the least effect on the tongue and offer the most tongue relief. Most horses can skip level 1, and there is absolutely a possibility that your horse will begin its training with the Myler system at level 2, 2-3, or even 3.
Your horse's Myler level depends on its temperament and experience. The Myler system includes different levels, meaning your horse earns its tongue relief step by step. The higher the Myler level, the more tongue relief the respective mouthpieces offer and the less they act on the tongue. If your horse resists the bit, use a softer bit, not a sharper one.
