Sweet Iron bits are made of iron and are recognizable by their distinctive blue color. When exposed to moisture, whether humidity or saliva, rust forms on the surface, which has a sweet taste and naturally stimulates saliva production. This causes the horse to foam more and accept the bit better.

A single-jointed bit has a single hinge point, which exerts less pressure on the tongue compared to a double-jointed mouthpiece. It primarily exerts pressure on the bars and the sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single-jointed mouthpiece is considered a standard mouthpiece.

The Pelham cheek piece combines the effects of a snaffle and a curb bit. Although it has a single cheek piece, it can be ridden with one or two reins. When riding with one rein, a Pelham strap is required to connect the bit rings to the shank rings. The length of the shanks influences the severity of the action, with longer-shanked Pelhams being sharper than baby Pelhams. It is mainly used for strong horses, those with limited mouth space for two mouthpieces, or horses that need to get used to a curb bit. However, this bit requires some rider experience.
