The Baby Weymouth bit, also known as the "Baby-Pelham," is used in conjunction with a bradoon, which is the so-called Weymouth rein. This combination is primarily used in higher dressage classes. The Weymouth bit works with leverage on the horse's bars. The length of the shanks determines the severity of the effect. The Baby Weymouth bit has shorter shanks and is therefore somewhat milder than the standard Weymouth bit. For the use of a Weymouth rein, a special bridle or an additional cheekpiece is required. Additionally, the Weymouth bit should always be combined with a curb chain to prevent excessive rotation in the horse's mouth. Due to its effect, this bit is more suitable for experienced riders.
